A man in Topeka , Kansas, decided to write a book about churches around
the country. He started by flying to San Francisco and began working
east from there. Going to a very large church, he started taking
photographs and making notes.
He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued
with a sign, which read "Calls: $10,000 a minute". Seeking out the pastor
he asked about the phone and the sign. The pastor answered that this
golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to heaven and if he pays the
price he can talk directly to GOD.
The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to
visit churches in Seattle, Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, and
around the United States, he found more phones, with the same sign, and
the same answer from each pastor.
Finally, he arrived in Nebraska. Upon entering a church ln Butte, NE,
Saint Peter & Paul Catholic Church, behold - he saw the usual golden
telephone. But THIS time, the sign read "Calls: 35 cents."
Fascinated, he asked to talk to the Priest, "Father Garry Welsh, I have
been in cities all across the country and in each church I have found
this golden telephone and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven
and that I could talk to GOD, but in the other churches the cost was
$10,000 a minute. Your sign reads only 35 cents a call. Why?"
I love this part.............................
The priest, smiling benignly, replied,
"Son, you're in Nebraska now ...... You're in God's Country, It's a local
call."

December 4, 2009 3:25 PMGod's country is, of course, Alaska - but it's still funny!
December 4, 2009 3:49 PMI am from Holdrege, Nebr. and am a big Palin Fan. We truly think Nebr. is God and Palin Country.
December 4, 2009 4:56 PMWhat a funny story. I love it!
December 4, 2009 5:14 PMI can attest to the fact that Nebraska is God's country. I spent some time in Beatrice and Lincoln several years ago. Beautiful places with beautiful faces.
Not sure about actual statistics, but I have read time and time again that Lincoln is one of the most conservative cities in the nation. Go, Cornhuskers!
I think it is safe to say that we ALL live in God's country. At least we used to - and we will again when Sarah and the conservatives in all our states fix things in Washington!
December 5, 2009 2:00 PMBy the way.. did anyone notice that Washington, DC is NOT a state??????
That's because they can't fix ANYTHING!
Good one, Meadow! Thanks for the good laugh!
