Yesterday, I heard a interview that Governor Palin did last week with Alaskan radio hosts Bob and Mark, which you can listen to here. One of the questions that they asked her is how would she be different as a politician if she didn't have any kids. She discussed that having kids made her a better politician and gave her a more future-focused perspective. One thing that has drawn people to Governor Palin is that she seems to relate to the average American. For some, it's simply the fact that she is a mom. For others, it's her charisma and personality. For others, it is her middle class upbringing. Have there been other politicians who possess these qualities? Yes, of course. However, very few politicians view politics through the lens of being a parent as Governor Palin does.
Governor Palin rarely gives an interview, writes a Facebook posts, or composes an op-ed without mentioning the national debt and how that will affect future generations. I know the Constitution seems largely ignored in politics today, but there is one component of the Preamble that the Governor seems to have a lot better grasp on than many. One of the reasons that the Constitution was written the the U.S. government established was to "ensure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity". When she was Governor she forward funded education, which allowed for schools to be able to more appropriately budget and thus provide a better education to students. She has always made fiscal sanity and debt reduction a high priority. A frugal government means that debt and the consequences of irresponsible governance isn't passed on for future generations through higher taxation, increased inflation, or dependence upon other nations who hold our debt.
Not only that, Governor Palin has been an advocate for unborn children and children with special needs. She is unabashedly pro-life and this is not more demonstrably seen than in the birth of her youngest child, Trig. It is reported that 90% of women who know that they are pregnant with a child with Down Syndrome choose to terminate the pregnancy. Governor Palin did not. She sees all children as beautiful and full of potential. In one of her speech to the Evansville, IN Right to Life group, Governor Palin said, "I'll take the Creator's idea of perfection over society's idea of perfection any day". As an aside, for those skeptics who have been visiting our site over the past few weeks, thanks for the extra traffic. The Governor has an obvious love of children and both her political action and rhetoric shows that she understand the need for our government to act to ensure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.
