Pundits will try to make yesterday's election result in NY-23 about Sarah Palin and the conservative ideals. It is about neither. Who would have ever thought a mid-term election would have garnered such media attention?
There were 3 races highlighted by all the media, yet there were elections all around the country totally ignored by every mainstream reporter. Of the 3 closely followed, two were won by Republicans. Virginia voters had finally had enough, and said so with their vote. New Jersey voters seemed to respond to the interference of the WH (not once, not twice...) and chose a new path to follow.
The race that grabbed the attention of everyone was NY-23. The dirty dealings before, during and after the campaign and election need to be imprinted on the minds of every voter in every state.
The special election came about after Obama picked then-sitting GOP congressman John McHugh as Army Secretary. This left an opening for the slot to be filled by a Democrat.
For whatever reason, Dede Scozzafava was picked by the GOP as their candidate. Ignoring all the warning signs that this was a Dem in elephant's clothing, Scozzafava was funded and endorsed by so-called leaders of the GOP. After dropping from the race, Scozzafava began actively supporting the Democrat candidate, Bill Owens.
When Doug Hoffman was overlooked (and dismissed) by the NY GOP group, he entered the race as an Independent running with all of his conservative values and principles in plain view. He was ultimately endorsed by the likes of Jeri and Fred Thompson, Dick Armey, Sarah Palin, Steve Forbes and others. He lost by a mere 4,000 votes.
What now? Jeanette Pryor has posted that Scozzafava has received the WH reward by being named as Special Advisor on Reproductive Rights: "Ms. Scozzafava’s special recognition by Pro-Abortion organizations and her talent as a politcal hermaphrodite make her a natural here in Washington,” noted the President. “We are thrilled to have the kind of Bi-Partisanship that results when Republicans are willing to put principles behind them and move forward.”
Now, how does the leader of our country know....... Actually, the piece is satire, but with this administration, very believable.
Owens, the Dem who won the election, will have only a very short time to make his case for re-election in 2010.
What is in the future for Doug Hoffman? Read his statement for yourself: America has changed
New Jersey and Virginia are the beginning. Will the 2010 elections continue the trend?
